Your real zodiac

Date: Thursday, August 16, 2007 Categories: stories

my friend sonia showed me a site that i thought was very interesting if you’re into horoscope (which i’m 50-50 about). it gives you your real zodiac sign by showing you how the sky looked like at the time of your birth. here’s an explanation from the site

Your zodiacal “sign” is determined by which of the 12 constellations of the zodiac the Sun was in on the day you were born. Almost everyone knows what their zodiacal sign is, but did you know that which constellation the Sun is in during any given month is slowly changing over the course of thousands of years? This means that if during late October of this year, the Sun is in the constellation Scorpius (it is not), then a couple of thousand Octobers from now it will have moved out of that constellation, and into another. This is because the Earth wobbles or precesses around its axis of rotation, which causes the background stars that make up the zodiacal constellations to change their apparent positions with respect to the Sun. So as the Earth wobbles, the Sun appears to change which constellation it’s in.

cooOoooOol huh?

so what you do is basically you pick your birthplace from the site (or the closest place… i doubt it matters much), then enter your birthdate and uncheck everything in the display option but the planets and the constellation names & boundaries to get a clear view of everything. the constellation that the sun is in at the time of your birth should be your “real” zodiac sign.

here’s how the sky looked at the time of my birth. according to this, my sign is apparently ophiuchus which doesn’t exist in western astrology. but it’s pretty darn close to Scorpio so i guess i’ll take that. it’s weird to know cause all my life i’ve always thought i was a Sag.

anyways, i said i’m 50-50 about horoscope. what i meant by this is that i don’t believe in the daily horoscope BS. they are only fun to read or laugh at- nothing more. but i have always noticed that i get along better with people of certain signs, namely aries and pisces, which has been said to be a good match for sag and scorpio

ahhh all these constellation names make me miss BSG. is it 2008 yet?
