windows registry files
so i broke my laptop again. i was trying to revive my dead CD-ROM drive by fiddling with the registry files, as suggested by a couple google searches… only i managed to delete the wrong keys. i know, so smart. it just so happen the key that i deleted made my keyboard stop working after windows starts up, so i couldn’t even log in because i couldn’t type my password. so i panicked, but thankfully i came across this Microsoft support page, which helped a whole bunch in restoring registry files to a previous state.
so lesson of the day… do not fiddle with registry files. but if you absolutely must, then make sure you back up the registries first and follow instruction closely. at least now i know my CD-ROM drive is really malfunctioning and not something else in the computer… cause i’ve tried everything possible. time to hunt for a new one. i miss having a CD drive :( i haven’t been able to play games, install things normally or watch DVDs for the past couple months!
speaking of which, this site is an excellent source for notebook parts if you need to replace something. it lists nearly all the replaceable part that is compatible with your laptop.
