well… kind of.
I don’t know if anyone here noticed, but my whole domain was down due to bandwidth issues starting from 2AM for pretty much the whole day until my host fulfilled my bandwidth request at around 4PM.
here’s what happened:
that’s a screenshot of my google analytics chart, showing how many unique visitors i got for my portfolio site. i call it a “mini digg” effect, because they didn’t come through digg and it wasn’t nearly as severe. the total damage is only 1.17GB in bandwidth so far, which excludes missed hits due to the downtime. i watched my bandwidth usage increase at the rate of 200MB per hour last night! it was pretty scary and amusing at the same time.
just a little fun fact, normally this whole domain uses only 500MB per month.
anyways, it seems that my hits are pretty much on their way back to normal. it was good while it lasted. just wish i had acted earlier (and my host had responded quicker) so more people could see my actual portfolio instead of the plain “509 Bandwidth Exceeded” page.
oh well… i live and learn. i’ll be sure to invest in more bandwidth from now on just in case something like this happens.
