Good and Bad News
okay, good news first! my domain-slash-portfolio was featured at Smashing Magazine! :D okay, i exagerrated… it was actually featured in an article (thanks Ross!) that was in turn featured on the Best of April 2008 list over at Smashing. i’ve been subscribed to Smashing’s RSS for some time now, so it was a pleasant surprise when i saw that and quite an honor even though i was only featured “by proxy” :D
bad news is, i found YET ANOTHER copy of my portfolio through that website. yeah, yeah, i know imitation is the highest form of flattery or what have you, but it’s just down right irritating. ESPECIALLY because it’s my portfolio, and i actually get some work from that site. it’s embarrassing when potential clients think that i copied someone else when in fact THEY copied me. think about how you would feel if someone uses your resume to apply for a job.
this isn’t the first time too. a couple months ago i found 5-6 exact imitation of my domain as well. i found the first one through my google analytics, which they didn’t even bother removing the code so my stats got all messed up. the others i found by googling my domain after finding the first copycat. oh yeah, some of them even listed *my* works under their work section. i was fuming!! >:(
oh well, i need to revamp that site anyway. the code is messy and the layout was half-assed. most of the work was spent trying to get used to mootools (which explains the messy code), then i was so elated when it worked that i wanted to just put it up… so that’s exactly what i did. i’m thinking of using the same effect on the next layout, but refine the design a little bit. or at least clean up the code or SOMEthing…
