Hole in the wall Noodle place
Yesterday my CEO took us out for lunch at this hole in the wall noodle place in Menteng area (where Obama lived when he was a kid!). The place has been there since 1968 and remained the same since, just (i’m guessing) more popular because they make yummy food! Unfortunately I completely forgot the name and googling didn’t do much good since there are many noodle places all over Jakarta :/

Anyway, we opened the meal with a piece of otak-otak. not quite sure what it is, but i know fish is one of the ingredients. you eat it with peanut sauce. this place makes very yummy otak-otak!

also ordered some Pangsit goreng, which i think is kinda like gyoza, but deep fried and perhaps made with different skin. but they both has meat in the middle. you eat it with this red sweet sour spicy sauce and typically eaten with the noodle.

Finally the main course. i got the traditional mie bakso (meat ball noodle) which comes with chicken, boiled veggies and a small bowl of soup / broth on the side (not pictured). this was VERY yummy! not overly oily yet so flavorful. i much prefer this than the one that most people know of (Bakmi GM, Gang Kelinci, etc)

i took this picture to show you guys the typical food portions here in Jakarta. much much smaller than America, where they serve you bowls that are literally bigger than your head. i much prefer this portion because i don’t walk out feeling like i just ate the entire world…
