Everything With Fries @ Joo Chiat Rd
YES YES I KNOW I HAVE SO MUCH TO BLOG ABOUT! But since my other entries will involve resizing pictures and possibly another video blog (translation: lots of work), I’m going to start off easy.. by food blogging my lunch today.
Apologies in advance for no pictures. I forgot to bring my camera today =( I’ll try to compensate by writing a more thorough review than usual?
Being the uber internet nerd that I am, I have (of course) been active on foursquare, an application that lets you check in to specific location in town and let your friends know where you are. I noticed that one of my friends, Thalia, has been checking in to this place called “Everything With Fries“. it immediately got my attention due to the quirky name and the fact that i just LOVE FRIES. one thing you should know about me is that i can’t say no to anything with potatoes in it. mashed, fried, scalloped, grilled, boiled, whatever… i LOVE THEM!! which reminds me, I should blog about that amazing truffle-mashed potatoes I had at Zen the other day.
anyway, I digress.
So I’ve been wanting to try this place, and finally got the chance this weekend. I called up my friends, Mike, Parissa and Will and we all went out to the their Joo Chiat branch. There is also a branch at Holland V, which would be closer to me but since my friends all live in east coast, I figured Joo Chiat would be the better place to try.
Everything With Fries was actually a lot smaller than I expected, with simple modern black and white decor. At a place named as such, it’s only expected that they would do something different for their fries. They had four different flavors: salt & vinegar, sour cream, curry and garlic & herbs, and all came in straight cut or skinny (shoe strings). We had one of each flavor. For my main I had breaded salmon with baby caesar salad, and sparkling apple for my drink. My friends ordered the same salmon dish, Tandoori Chicken and Cheese Burger. We all shared their one egg soup and skinny wings as appetizer.
And, here comes the review: The one egg soup was very good. We all enjoyed it very much and ate till the very last drop. the Skinny wings was just okay, i think, since i don’t remember much about it. the breaded salmon was honestly not the best I’ve ever had. It tasted bland and watery (?) for whatever reason, and the sauce was a bit too sweet. I loved my salt & vinegar straight cut fries, but my sparkling apple was nothing to write home about. I had a sip of my friends’ butterscotch shakes (which was fantastic!) and nutella shakes (it tasted like melted chocolate ice cream). Among the four flavors of the fries, I think curry and salt&vinegar was the best.
The verdict? based on what I ordered, I’d give this place a 7/10. It seems like my friends had better luck with their orders though. I also would come back to try their burger, because apparently Mike loved his cheese burger (he ordered it rare and it came out perfect). Maybe next time I’ll try their Holland V branch and see if they are better there.

Whenever I order meet rare in Singapore, it comes out medium, or medium well. The fries here weren’t anything special, but the burger was damn good. The buns are homemade, so props for that, and the and a standing O for being one of the handful of places that actually know what rare means!
