Sea Bin: Your Rubbish Doesn’t Always End Up Where You Think

A very cool, environment-friendly installation done by a couple coworkers of mine at iris. I’m extremely proud of them for pulling this off!
These new SeaBins act as a strong visual reminder that the items you throw away never really disappear… those items have to go somewhere – and it’s often into our oceans! [...] The outer layer acts as a symbol of our oceans and as the rubbish piles up inside the inner layer, we are given a strong visual reminder that our rubbish is literally clogging up our precious ocean environment.
I’ve got to admit that I’m not the greenest person out there, but the issue of waste management and recycling, or lack thereof, has always been on the back of my mind. And it should be on yours too.
It really doesn’t take much to start helping, and it doesn’t require as much effort as you may think. You can start with the smallest “sacrifice”, such as refusing the plastic bag and disposable utensils on take home foods whenever possible (and you know Singaporeans buy back food all the time!). Do you really need plastic bags to carry your little box of food? Can’t you use the metal spoon / wooden chopsticks at home or at the office to eat your food? Every action, no matter how little it seems, helps!
The SeaBin will be spending this week at the ground level of Orchard Central before moving off to Suntec City next week.
