Spruce @ Tanglin Rd
I finally visited Spruce today after hearing so much about their brunch menu. you know me, i LOVE brunch! waking up for it though is a different story and this is why I don’t get to enjoy brunch as often as i’d like, despite craving for it all the time!
Anyway, I met up with my friend at Orchard and we headed down to the green and quiet Tanglin Road. Five dollar cab ride later we pulled up to Phoenix Park area. I had a vague idea where Spruce is since I used to pass by it back when I lived in Queenstown, but I had no idea where exactly it is within the complex. We circled the area around, which is some sort of preschool and eerily quiet on the weekend, and had to call in before we figured out that Spruce is actually located directly to the right of the entrance and on the bottom of the hill.
Immediately after walking in, you’d notice that Spruce has this nice and cozy ambiance. You can choose to sit indoors by the semi-foresty wooden balcony or indoors with air conditioner and homely decor.

If your breakfast includes toast, they served it with this UBER CUTE mini jar of strawberry jam. What’s with girls and miniature of things you ask? I don’t know… it just drives us crazy.
I was STARVING by the time we got there, so I went straight for what sounded like the biggest breakfast available.

The Spruce Big Brekkie (S$18)
Eggs (Scrambled, Poached or Sunny Side Up) Bacon, German Sausage, Roasted Tomato, Roasted Potato, Mushrooms and Foccacia Toast
When the food came out though, i was slightly disappointed at how ordinary it was, portion-wise. Don’t get me wrong, it turned out to be the perfect amount for me since I was happy and stuffed by the end of the meal, but for something with “big breakfast” in its name, it really pales in comparison to – say, Denny’s breakfast menu. Then again of course people in the states were also twice as big as average Singaporean so maybe it’s a good thing.
The breakfast itself wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but it was decent. I practically polished off everything on the plate. The price was a bit astronomical but reasonable by Singapore standard of western brunch. The reason why I would go back again though, is the nice and welcoming ambiance and the fact that service was good even when it was a full house (Btw, I would make reservation if I plan to head down around noon on a weekend). For one our food actually came at the same time, which is pretty rare in Singapore, so you don’t have to wait for your company to get their food and vice versa. All in all I can see why this is a popular choice for brunch! :)
