Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh @ MBS

Date: Monday, August 8, 2011 Categories: dining out

I first tried Bak Kut Teh with my coworkers at Hong Lim hawker center near work, and was hooked ever since!

I soon learned there are two types of bak kut teh: one with dark, savory soup (hokkien style) and one with light, peppery soup (teochew style). The one I tried with my coworkers were the dark kind so I was eager to try the light version.

After some research online I found out that Ng Ah Sio is often hailed as the best bak kut teh place in Singapore. I didn’t have time to visit their original branch, but I did visit them at their Marina Bay Sands branch.

Some steamed vegetables and pork parts with braised peanuts in dark soy sauce.

The amazing bak kut teh! They look really plain but once you nibble on a piece you’ll soon find that they’re bursting with flavor. Not to mention the meat were so soft and tender that they were  falling off the bones! I was in bak kut teh heaven!! The soup was also plain amazing. They are peppery and full of flavor. I’m a HUGE fan of pepper so I definitely enjoyed the soup a lot.

I came in to this thinking I would like the dark kind better, but now I really can’t decide which one is better. I know for sure the next time we have rainy days I’m going straight to the bak kut teh stall  :)
