Graze @ Rochester Park

Date: Sunday, August 14, 2011 Categories: brunch

I had heard about Graze several times before, but had no idea where it was located. All I know is that they are located somewhere vaguely on the west side of Singapore. Eitherway, I was excited to finally visit this place!

Turns out it’s located at Rochester Park, a small little area just south of Buona Vista MRT. I used to live in the west before (Queenstown) but I had no idea such place existed.

Upon entering I realized something weird.. ummm it didn’t feel like I was in Asia! Graze is an Australian place, but it was amusing that literally everyone there was an expat! i looked around only to realize i’m one of the two asians that were there. Are we even still in Singapore? I guess it makes sense since we were so close to Holland V, which is known to be very expat-friendly.

Anyway, the food:

I got Garden Asparagus tips (S$24 – yes, this price is  pricier than others) with poached egg and smoked king salmon. it was part of their brunch special so it also came with a glass of mimosa. I’m not going to lie, the mimosa was a selling point for me :P

The portion was, as you can see above, quite disappointing. For the price i expected more, but I guess it did come with mimosa which was S$14 by itself. My friend Will ordered their Signature Cast Iron Pan, which was a MUCH MUCH better value at the same price, in terms of food portion.

Aside of that, the food itself did not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed everything on my plate (as well as some bacon and sausages Will gave me :P)

Service was attentive at Graze. They offered us a small rattan chair to put my bag on – a very nice touch i haven’t experienced anywhere else! I did run into a small problem when paying though. Will and I requested to split the bill on our cards, and we both happened to have the exact same DBS card. We didn’t check our names when we got the bill (which was handed to us individually instead of just put on the table), and… you guessed it, we ended up taking each other’s card. Thankfully I was still within the neighborhood when I realized so I had to backtrack to switch our cards back.

Anyway I want to come back here to try their regular menu! Except for the portion bit I mentioned above, I loved the ambiance and everything about this place.  I loved that it was so outdoorsy (but they do provide shade so you don’t roast under the sun) and green. Makes me really, really miss living in the west.
