I’ve known Batik for quite some time but as a child, I never really appreciated this form of art. I guess I just took it for granted as one of the nation’s most famous tradition without knowing its true value. However today, as I was accompanying my mom in search for some souvenir I found myself completely in love with Batik! The patterns produced with this technique are just so intricately beautiful, the details are mind-blowing and perfectly imperfect as a result of the hand painting process. It is truly incredible.

I love the scarves and linens, but most of all i love the hand carved AND hand painted (!!) batik masks:

When i grow up and have a house, I want three of these hanging on the living room wall. there were three different sizes. the smallest one is about the size of my palm (see below) and the biggest one covers my face. the medium-sized mask is probable about 1.5 bigger than the smallest one.

I took a liking to this mask since the face isn’t as sinister as the other ones. plus, the pattern is just so pretty! I feel so inspired after seeing these. wonder if I can buy the unpainted carved masks and paint one myself!

Anyway, today my family and I also happen to pass by the christian school that all three of us (me, my sis and my bro) used to go to. I went to this school from 6th – 9th grade. It was quite a nostalgic experience. The school was a bit smaller than I remember, but they held so many memories of my early teenage years.

we talked about the places we used to hang out at, and how all three of us used to get some sort of punishment for being just a couple minutes late to school (we had to stand in front of the whole school during our monday weekly ceremony!!), how my brother played basketball and soccer all the time and ripped his pants in front of his classmates (he didn’t care back then), how we had to change for gym in a small bathroom along with the rest of the class, so on so forth. it’s amazing how much you’re able to remember and how much you manage to forget in just.. a little under 10 years.

ahhh memories!!!

i keep waking up at 6:30 these days no matter how late i sleep…

on saturday I went to choose seats for my football ticket. well that turned out to be more exciting than expected. i thought we were just going to show up and choose seats, but we ended up looking at the player’s locker room as well (which was really nice! not your regular smelly locker room).

then, they let us walk on the football field itself :D

yay!! can’t wait to cheer for UCLA this fall!! we’ve got decent seats i think :D

that was the first game of the season that i went to, and we rocked! fun game to watch and a nice comeback after being completely slaughtered last week.

anyway, pics from tailgating. bet you didn’t see THAT coming ;D

making taco. i had no idea they put radishes in tacos! or better yet, i didn’t know what radishes look or taste like until yesterday. oh, and i found out the new coke zero taste EXACTLY like regular coke. it was bizarre. and that huge knife makes me nervous.

my plain spicy hot dog. so good and spicccyyyyyy… i end up not eating half the bread. i hate the bread that comes with burgers / hot dogs because they taste like paper (not that i know how it taste like…) so usually i just pick on the meat by itself. i know, i know. i get tons of weird looks from this.

it was raining sporadically yesterday, and this is an opening of white cloud and blue sky among the dark clouds. pretty huh?

my lil pearl alyssssaaaaaa!! and me, of course. like my tattoo? everyone and their mom asked me where i got it. danya gave me those tattoo before we left. it was originally for miller light ad, but she cut off the miller part. har har har.. i’m thinking of getting a couple my own so i don’t have to bum off her every time

triangle boys being silly as usual :D that night i got to talk to some people i never got to talk to, so that was real nice.

people at the game. night games make pretty pictures but it was preeeettty damn cold. i was stupid enough to wear a thin blazer… so i was freezing. but once we got to the stadium, it was fine because i was surrounded by people.

I finally picked up my diploma today. awww, i’m a little sad and proud of myself. sad because this officially marks the end of my ties with UCLA as i have no “real” reason to go back to campus anymore. but i’m proud because my diploma says i have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a minor in Asian Languages :]

that’s Arnold Schwarzenegger’s signature on the right hand side (the top one). i think they aren’t real but it’s still cool to know that the terminator signed my diploma!

anyways, so while i was on campus i decided to take pictures because it was such a gorgeous day and UCLA is a really beautiful campus. funny how i never noticed this before. i guess i don’t know what i have until i don’t have it anymore.

Royce hall, which is like… the trademark of UCLA. this was where i had countless Japanese classes for my minor. once i had a computer science class here. that was weird. then the professor moved us back to south campus where we belong.

the Powell library, which is our main library. gorgeous library but i never used it much during my 4.5 years at school. if you want to know where i did spend a huge portion of my time, it’s at this gloomy hall on the south part of the campus called… the Boelter Hall *ominous music*

i miss UCLA. i passed by a group of incoming freshmen tour while walking around campus, and i can’t help but feel jealous for what these kids are about to experience… i had a really good time at UCLA despite not really liking my major. truly an experience i wouldn’t trade for anything else.

this test says i am INFJ which is not surprising since i’m always that. apparently we made up 1% of the population… no wonder i’m so weird. i question the accuracy of these tests though… most of the questions are about how we perceive ourselves, and we all know most of the time we’re not the best judge for our own characters.

but what made me really happy is that Gillian Anderson (aka Scully in X-Files) is also INFJ! :D

i miss college. i miss walking down the bruin walk or under the bridge on strathmore. i miss taking my usual route to Boelter. i miss going to the boelter cafe in between classes to get snack, and then going to the SEAS lab to use the hella nice computers. i miss walking into my class, seat myself on the back and proceed to fall asleep regardless whether the prof turned off the light or not. i miss freaking out about finals and midterms… okay i lie. that part i do not miss but you get the point.

life after college is so mundane. sure i can now feed myself and afford to get nicer things, but everyday is the same and they all kinda mash together into one day. i’m sure this will be all different if i have a job i actually enjoy, but what can i say. i always say i hate programming, but in all honesty nothing beats the boringness of doing office work.

anyway, today passed by slowly like a rock. i feel refreshed though because i took a shower in the morning at 7AM… maybe i should take morning showers from now on instead of late night ones. tomorrow is my brother’s 19th birthday. he got his own apartment at USC. i’m so old T_T

i started up on FFX again. i’m getting used to the non-FF feeling of it. it’s still pretty boring for the most part but i’ve only invested maybe four hours in this game…
